Position Summary:

This is the Chief Academic Officer of the institution.  Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for the overall management of  College-wide academic functions providing strategic leadership for the development, implementation, assessment, and oversight of academic programs, services, and initiatives through  a system designed to meet the needs of a diverse student body resulting in student learning and completion.    

Essential Job Functions

  • Understand and support St. Petersburg College’s mission, vision, and values;
  • Serve as a member of the President's Cabinet, the Executive Leadership Council, and college-wide committees as appropriate;
  • Provide strategic direction to Deans and academic staff that is, innovative, empowering and engaging to develop and grow a diverse workforce and student populations; 
  • Develop an academic system that integrates program/curriculum development and implementation, course offerings (all instructional modalities) that meet the needs of students, and a commitment to academic pathways resulting in closing the achievement gap and increasing student success;
  • Foster an academic culture based on integrity, transparency, collaboration and accountability focused on student learning, encouraging faculty and academic staff to improve student outcomes;
  • Seek and support opportunities to foster collaboration within all areas of the college, including campus-leadership, to sustain student success and completion.
  • Plan and coordinate workforce (career & technical education) programs (credit/non-credit) to meet college priorities and employer needs; 
  • Empower academic leaders to effectively provide curriculum services, dual credit/Collegiate High School, and Online Learning Services, Institutional Research, and learning resources;
  • Manage the budget and financial resources strategically college-wide for the academic division and oversee the planning and implementation of operating and capital budget requests;
  • Use data to inform and create a culture of success;
  • Collaborate and build relationships with college leaders and stakeholders, to ensure effective planning analysis, and evaluate campus academic priorities;
  • Identify challenges and opportunities to develop partnerships with business and industry, community-based organizations, and educational institutions;
  • Advise the President on issues such as: student learning and success, academic programs and structure, hiring and retention of a diverse faculty and staff, resources and facilities, and accreditation;
  • Represent the College and the President in community engagements, public events, and college programming with local, state and federal agencies; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This is the sixth of six levels in the Academic Management series.  The classification is responsible for the overall management of the College-wide academic functions.  Incumbent will set the strategic direction for academic programs at the College.  Oversees the development of the academic programs, and ensures they align with the overall mission and goals of the College.

Compensation: $131,091.67 - $163,864.58

Requirements:

Education:

Earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.

Experience:

Ten (10) years’ experience in higher education, including five (5) years top-level administrative experience in academic affairs.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience satisfactory to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically requires reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
