Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Support Technician [ID: 1022]
Position Summary:

This class is the first of four levels in the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Support series. Incumbents plan, support, maintain, and update assigned systems and applications related to the college’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Remote Desktop Services (RDS).  Responsibilities may include analyzing end user needs and maintaining certain aspects of the VDI systems, testing upgrades and patches; and preparing analytical and statistical reports all while providing extremely high levels of customer support (internal and external) and satisfaction.

Compensation: $16.67 - $25.01

Requirements:

Education:

Associates’ degree in the related field

Experience:

Three years experience in area of responsibility or relatable field.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Knowledge:

  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure systems – such as VMWare Horizon, Citrix or Microsoft RDS;
  • General network design;
  • Virtual Machine use, creation, configuration and maintenance;
  • Diagnostic tools, procedures, software and equipment;
  • Operating system software and administration principles and practices;
  • System configuration principles and practices;
  • Report development;
  • Recordkeeping principles;
  • Computers and related software applications.

Skills:

  • Developing reports using report writing tools;
  • Analyzing applicable systems, procedures and making appropriate recommendations to increase efficiency there of;
  • Configuring technological platforms, virtual networks, virtual machines and systems;
  • Ability to provide first class customer service to all levels of employees and students;
  • Communicating technical information to a non-technical audience;
  • Maintaining records;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Highly skilled communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information accurately and tactfully as well as to give and receive work direction within the team.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to electrical currents, workspace restrictions, and travel.

Develops, manages, and maintains VDI & RDS systems, applications, and/or databases which includes installing and testing upgrades and patches; ensuring data accuracy; updating and revising applications; and performing related duties.

Works with end users, site technicians, site administration, college administration and other contacts to maintain, install, support and troubleshoot VDI related hardware endpoints.

Provides technical expertise and end-user assistance related to VDI & RDS software in a first and second tier role; identifies end-user problems and determines viable solutions.

Develops standard and ad-hoc statistical and functional reports as requested. Manages report methods, formats, and standards; develops and maintains report queries related to VDI and RDS systems.
