Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Director [ID: 1039]
Position Summary:

The Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion provides leadership for the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, and for the development and implementation of college wide initiatives, policies and practices to ensure students, employees and program/employment applicants, and campus visitors experience equal opportunity and equal access to all services and support.  Primarily, the Director is responsible for areas of compliance, advocacy and education. Serving as the chief diversity officer, this position reports directly to the president and works closely with vice presidents, human resources, the legal office and compliance officers, as well as various divisions of the college. This position is also responsible for developing a vision and strategy that champions the importance and value of a diverse and inclusive college environment that builds a welcoming culture at SPC. This includes designing a college wide training program and strategic initiatives involving enhancing cultural competency, and supporting non-discrimination policies, including, but not limited to, those related to gender differences, disability, sexual harassment and other topics that will increase college-wide awareness and support of equity and inclusion values and compliance.

The Director will also oversee the College’s Workforce Analysis and compliance with Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other applicable requirements, including compliance with Title IX.  In addition, the Director will respond to complaints of policy violations, allegations of discrimination and those related to accommodations/access, and serve as a resource and support officer on institutional policies, as well as state and federal laws related Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504, and ADEA.

The Director will safeguard and retain highly confidential information through reports, written and verbal, and develop an institutional plan through which to deliver programming and training designed to promote and incorporate equity and inclusion into the core of the institutional mission.

Typical Essential Duties:

  • Plan, guide and advise the President and leadership officers on diversity, equity and affirmative action matters.
  • Oversee all aspects of the college’s equal opportunity functions for students, employees, applicants, partners and local communities SPC serves.
  • Ensure all discrimination complaints are handled in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and college policies/procedures to include prompt and equitable responses to reports of discrimination, harassment and related misconduct.
  • Provide direction and consultation to equal opportunity team in the assessment, remedy, and investigation of complaints.
  • Integrate best practices in discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct investigations and stay abreast of current regulatory developments.
  • Coordinate the College’s discrimination grievance process.
  • Promote College commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion through the development of an equity and inclusion plan, college-wide training plan and active engagement with internal and external constituents.
  • Develop and implement college-wide training that promotes cultural understanding and competency that builds a climate of equity and inclusion.
  • Design and implement self-audit systems to ensure that programs and processes are in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Gather, analyze and use data to complete and submit all internal, state and federal equity reporting, and to provide data driven recommendations and policy change to College leadership.
  • Develop and submit the College’s Annual Equity Report and Affirmative Action Plan, and ensure achievement of the equity goals.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to facilitate continuous improvement of employment and diversity processes
  • Participate in and advise senior leadership of the recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups. Monitor and evaluate the diversity of candidate participants in the screening and hiring process. Work closely with human resources to develop strategies to attract underrepresented candidates.
  • Implement a plan to work alongside Accessibility Services in support of student accessibility, accommodation appeals process, website and electronic accessibility
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Compensation: $87,351.91 - $109,189.89

Requirements:

Education:

Master’s degree in counseling, higher education administration, human resource management or a related field.

Experience:

3 years’ experience in human resources development and/or student affairs with preference to specific work in equity, inclusion, accessibility, and compliance applicable to higher education. Must have demonstrable ability to interpret federal and state laws and regulations.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

  • Thorough knowledge of laws and regulations related to civil rights compliance in higher education and employment.
  • Knowledge of training, conflict resolution and mediation methods.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Environment:

  • Position includes work pressure due to frequent disturbances of work flow due to addressing irregularities in the schedule.
  • Requires continuous upgrading of skills and awareness of new regulations and criteria.
  • Extended work hours are common, including weekend and evenings and the Director is expected to be available by cell phone.
