Position Summary:

The Associate Vice President, Information Technology will lead the college’s ongoing commitment to support and promote the strategic use of information technology that advances the overall mission of the College.

This position serves as the principal technology leader for the College providing the vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology strategies and initiatives college-wide. This role requires a necessity for a high level of familiarity with the various constituents and a commitment to meeting the diverse information and communication needs that exist across all college departments.

The AVP, Information Technology is responsible for anticipating and maintaining a vision for the future technology needs at St. Petersburg College, and for recommending strategies, priorities, and projects that will best achieve the college’s strategic goals and objectives.

Responsible for providing leadership, effective strategic planning, and direction of the information technology infrastructure development, administration, technical support, cybersecurity and network systems services. The department of Information Technology includes enterprise systems programming, telecommunications, network systems management, cybersecurity, systems support, disaster recovery), and computer operations.

Plan, direct, and coordinate the development and/or procurement of new systems and current system enhancements to meet SPC business requirements and to support management decision-making aligned with the strategic objectives of the college.

The primary position responsibility is the maximization of the productivity of SPC information systems, IT staff, and SPC business processes, through planning, analysis, project management, and the cultivation of IT customer relationships.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Responsible for developing collaborations among the College’s academic and administrative constituents to advance the College's mission;
  • Leadership in the development of a strategic direction for information technology services, gauging and anticipating the diverse needs of college constituents, monitoring trends and innovations in the industry to meet those needs; developing and implementing strategic long and short-term technology plans; and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership;
  • Develop and organize technology talent that is structured to efficiently deliver services across the organization;
  • Works with the student body and student affairs professionals to advance the student experience with creative technology integration in areas where students live, work, and play;
  • Provide skilled leadership in identifying and solving business problems with technology tools;
  • Maintain and improve IT customer relationships by facilitating ongoing dialog between IT and SPC business units regarding current and anticipated business requirements;
  • Lead development of departmental standards and operational procedures to assure compliance with information security standards, separation of duties, programming and documentation standards, ERP database integrity, program testing and user acceptance, and continuity of operations and disaster recovery procedures;
  • In collaboration with VP Finance & Business Operations coordinate the allocation of IT staff and resources to plan, develop/procure, test and implement new systems and system enhancements in order to meet IT business customer requirements;
  • Communicate IT systems development/enhancement plans, status and issues on a regular basis to executive management and IT business customers;
  • Develops and presents IT information to the Board as requested;
  • Oversight and coordination of the College’s Strategic Technology Plan, including management of the College’s Technology Oversight Group;
  • Fosters a widespread awareness of computer ethics and security within the campus community;
  • Assists in the development of the college-wide master facilities and technology plans, with particular emphasis on ensuring the integrity and strategic development of the information/communications hardware infrastructure;
  • Responsible for technology systems contract administration including contract negotiations and renewals in accordance with contract terms; 
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

 

This classification is responsible for providing complex and senior level direction to the activities of an assigned administrative related department or program.  Incumbents work in an administrative related department or function which enables the College to function fiscally, operationally, or administratively.  Incumbents will develop strategies to accomplish College-wide goals, implement policies and procedures, and develop and monitor an assigned budget.  Incumbents perform management level work for their assigned departments or functions, only performing analysis or professional level work if necessary.

Compensation: $107,009.85 - $133,762.31

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business Administration (the latter with a strong background in Management Information Systems. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

Seven (7) years of full-time work experience to include senior-level management, long-term strategic planning, computer systems management, information technology, systems analysis and design, ERP systems implementation and upgrades, end-user support systems, and business intelligence reporting systems in a multi campus college environment is required.

Proficiency in Microsoft applications, to include but not limited to: SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Project.

Be a change agent with positive human relations skills. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with diverse functional areas and stakeholders both internal and external to the College.

Effectively and economically manage and supervise information technology operations and staff, including but not limited to:

  • End-user support;
  • Networking operations;
  • Management information systems;
  • Information security systems;
  • ERP software development life cycles;
  • Demonstrated project management skills;
  • Lead and implement business process re-engineering projects;
  • Ability to work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish the College mission and strategic plan.

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
