Museum Director and Facilitator of the LRMA Advisory Board [ID: 211]
Position Summary:

The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art enhances understanding and appreciation of diverse peoples, cultures, and religions of the world through dynamic exhibitions, publications, of public and academic programs informed perspectives of the cultures represented.

This is the fourth of four levels in the Museum series.  Incumbents plan and coordinate the operational and fundraising functions with a partnership with the College’s Foundation.  Responsibilities may include developing museum policies and procedures; preparing and managing a budget; coordinating museum departments and functions; marketing museum events and activities; cultivating donors and soliciting funds; writing and managing grants; and preparing operational, financial, statistical reports, and accreditation parameters.

Education and academic engagement activities are also vital to the museum's mission and include programs that serve both the college and the broader Pinellas County community. SPC programs include class visits and student and faculty-led performances. School tours provide K-12 students experiences that demonstrate the power of arts and cultures.

Compensation: $70,762.40 - $106,143.60

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts or in a related field to assigned area. Master's degree in art, art history, museum studies, non-profit management, or a related field. Course work and evidence of participation in museum management, administration is required, and in a University/College setting a plus.

Experience:

Five (5) years’ experiences managing a non-profit cultural institution including three (3) years’ experience in fundraising. Experience in a college or university museum with a permanent collection, teaching experience and/or a record of managerial accomplishments is desirable.

*An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Skills:

 

  • Lead the strategic planning, direction, and implementation of the museum as a public unit within the college supporting its broader goals and the college in articulating a compelling vision for LRMA as a 21st century museum and cultural destination.
  • Develop opportunities to support LRMA as a teaching resource providing oversight and management of staff to ensure a connection to both college and external stakeholders.
  • Prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in all areas of the museum.
  • Build and maintain a high performing team; set clear direction; and mentor, evaluate and guide senior management to support a culture of excellence, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Monitoring and evaluating employees. Delegating and prioritizing work.
  • Work with Campus Provost to assure the necessary organizational structure, policies, systems controls, and procedures are in place and regularly reviewed for effectiveness.
  • Represent the museum and the Arts in SPC councils and committees within the College.
  • Guide the development of institutional curatorial priorities, including exhibitions and collections care that address the short- and long-term needs of the museum and the community it serves with the highest curatorial and ethical standards of the field.
  • Develop relationships with foundation and other grant funding institutions to enhance the Museum's research, exhibitions, and programs.
  • Develop relationships with scholars, artists, and institutions to support the creation and curation of vibrant exhibitions that build of LRMA's reputation and advance new scholarship and conversations within and beyond the field.
  • Interact regularly with LRMA's advisory committee to ensure they actively engage in the future of the museum.
  • Serves as spokesperson and chief advocate for the Museum. Establishes strong

partnerships in the community. Enhances the Museum’s public image to expand interest and

support.

  • Developing and monitoring budgets, museum collections, creating exhibits, developing and presenting educational materials, creating marketing materials and public speaking to assist in LRMA’s continual community and academic appeal.
  • Conducting research, preparing records and reports, providing customer service.
  • Developing and implementing operational policies and procedures as needed.
  • Using a computer and related software applications.

Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:

Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

Incumbent may be subject to dusts, odors, and chemicals.

Potential Frequency

  1. Manages staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. (Daily 20%)
  2. Develops museum policies and procedures; plans, coordinates, and evaluates programs, projects, and service offerings; ensures compliance with policies, goals, and regulations. (Daily 10%)
  3. Develops and administers budget; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and controls expenditures; and manages financial operations. (Daily 10%)
  4. Oversees management of collection including handling, preservation, storage, maintenance of retrieval system and documentation; evaluates collection and determines priority of needs. (Daily 30%)
  5. Organizes marketing and public relations efforts; maintains contact SPC’s Foundation regarding collectors, donors, art institutions, museum, and College staff in acquisition of special collections; solicits funds; writes and manages grants. (Daily 20%)
  6. Prepares and reviews a variety of operational, financial, and statistical reports. (Daily 10%)
  7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. (As Required.)
