Collegiate HS Principal [ID: 237]
Position Summary:

Leads a Charter High School stressing dual enrollment programs at St. Petersburg College. Directs, coordinates and administers the educational activities of a charter high school.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Directs and coordinates educational, administrative and counseling activities to ensure conformance to state standards;
  • Confers with teachers, students and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school;
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with high school district, community (home school and private school organizations), and other schools to coordinate educational services;
  • Directs the allocation of supplies, equipment, and instructional materials; coordinate course schedule with college faculty and academic progress for dual enrollment; apply for federal and state grants available to charter schools;
  • Directs preparation of class schedules, cumulative records and attendance reports;
  • Physically monitors building and property to ensure safety and security;
  • May develop and administer educational programs for students with special needs.

The classification is responsible for directing the activities of an assigned academic related department or program.  Incumbents will develop strategies to accomplish goals, implement policies and procedures, and develop and monitor an assigned budget.  Incumbents may need to perform professional level work within assignment and will supervise employees or student workers. This classification is different from previous class in the scope of responsibility.

Compensation: $100,009.21 - $125,011.51

Requirements:

Education:

Master's degree in related field to assigned area. Standard Secondary Certificate. Principal Certificate (or eligible for certification). Doctorate degree preferred.

Experience:

Five (5) years experience in administrative, leadership positions in K-12 education management, preferably in a high school environment and including budgeting process and FTE collection, charter school funding, and secondary/postsecondary fiscal procedures and processes. Classroom experience. Strong interest in innovative high school programs. Experience in recruiting/public relations.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Directs and oversees staff which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Directs the implementation of activities and operations of a significant College program, department, or service offering impacting a large area and range of services, which includes planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, student retention, strategic planning, processes, policies, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; developing short- and long-range strategies; developing academic assessment strategies; ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; and coordinating activities between multiple functions.

Prepares, reviews, and interprets a variety of applications, agreements, forms, records, needs assessments, business correspondence, and reports; makes recommendations based on findings.
