Career Services Support Coordinator [ID: 414]
Position Summary:

Plans, organizes and directs activities relating to providing support services for students interested in career research and/or development. Provides college-wide leadership, resources and training to staff in the career centers on campus and to faculty who teach the Career and Life Planning Courses.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Partners with campus Associate Provosts to train and supervise career center staff on campus and provide quality support services;
  • Ensures that career services are provided in several modalities – on campus and online;
  • Partners with SLS faculty who teach the Career and Life Planning course by providing current literature of best practices regarding career services;
  • Provides training to campus counselors college-wide to facilitate the career assessment program;
  • Conducts career testing and interprets test results for students;
  • Manages internship experiences for students working in local businesses;
  • Develops and plans college-wide career workshops for students including resume writing, interviewing, and methods of conducting a job search;
  • Provides current information for the career services centers and the SPC web site regarding best practices;
  • Maintains a local business contact list and current job opening information in order to assist students with job placement;
  • Conveys accurate and current academic and career information to students, faculty and staff;
  • Demonstrates leadership as a student advocate and consultant to faculty and staff;
  • Maintains currency in the counseling profession and demonstrates mature, professional judgments;
  • Promotes positive public relations for the department and the institution.

 

Incumbents in this class focus on coordinating professional-level support services to students (local, out-of-state, international) and prospective students in single areas or across a number of disciplines that may include admissions, financial aid, academic advising, career services, study abroad, honors college, and disability services. In addition to providing student support services, incumbents are responsible for developing internal and external partnerships to enhance services; conducting program assessment and evaluation to ensure effective delivery of services; making referrals for resources to assist in the students' career and educational success; and serving as a liaison between high schools, students, employers, and the college.  Incumbents in this class perform professional-level student support activities and may have formal supervisory responsibility for program staff.

Compensation: $46,978.82 - $58,723.53

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Business or in a related field to assigned area.

Experience:

Five (5) years of counseling experience in a postsecondary institution. Experience in career counseling, human relations, or vocational placement preferred.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
