Network Systems & Telecommunications Senior Director [ID: 454]
Position Summary:

Plans, organizes and provides operational oversight and design support of the college-wide data and voice network infrastructure. This position also supervises assigned network technical support staff, resources and support required for the selected assigned network systems including network security operations.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Manages campus-based network technicians in designing, installing and maintaining voice, video and data networking technology for the college's data center, sites and campuses;
  • Advise and collaborate with college leadership regarding business continuity, disaster recovery and emergency response planning;
  • Serve as an expert advisor to senior management and project managers in the development, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure and provide guidance regarding prioritization of infrastructure investments;
  • Developing, publishing, and maintaining comprehensive college-wide documentation of voice and data based network systems;
  • Provide support, expertise and/or supervision of assigned staff for Network Security operations including, but not limited to, incident response, security event management/monitoring and other related network security operations areas;
  • Work with senior engineering staff, project managers and Purchasing to assist in the creation of selection criteria for vendor products, tools, and services related to voice & data infrastructure;
  • Monitor and report on college-wide voice/data network utilization, capacity planning, trend analysis and Network Security metrics;
  • Provide direct support for prolonged and irregular hours including around the clock availability via mobile phone and frequent district travel.

 

Compensation: $105,565.09 - $158,347.64

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or in a related field to assigned area or equivalent combination of formal course work and training with active certification(s) in at least one of the major network support areas (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, Cisco VOIP, or CISSP). Specialized coursework or training in data communications or server infrastructure or network security is required in all cases.

Experience:

Six (6) years experience in Information Systems with two (2) years of direct network (voice or data) support work and one (1) year experience in a supervisory role. Experience must include actual work with designing and implementing LAN and/or WAN network components or network server infrastructure. Experience with information security operations and work experience in higher education is desirable.
 
* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Knowledge:

  • Modern data and voice network systems best practices and procedures;
  • Data Communications concepts;
  • Carrier based infrastructure, T1s, metro, Ethernet.

Skills:

  • Provide support for and understanding of complex network infrastructure TCP/IP protocols, Voice over IP (VOIP), Cisco switches and routers;
  • Functional and systems analysis.
