Laboratory Manager [ID: 57]
Position Summary:

The laboratory manager, under the direction of the dean, will assist the college's orthotic and prosthetic faculty in developing, implementing and executing the laboratory portion of the orthotic and prosthetic educational curriculum. Lab manger will be responsible for maintaining supplies and equipment for the orthotic and prosthetic laboratories.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Assist the faculty in the development, implementation and instruction of orthotic and prosthetic labs;
  • Maintain open laboratory hours for students to work;
  • Assist the students in the development of effective fabrication skills and safe laboratory habits;
  • Develop, implement and oversee laboratory operation and compliance with safety procedures;
  • Develop, Implement and oversee checkout and check-in procedures for each laboratory session for use of laboratory equipment and materials for laboratory classes;
  • Maintain keys for lockers.

This is the second of two levels in the Laboratory Support series. Incumbents coordinate the operations of an assigned lab by managing the usage of laboratory equipment and media to meet student and faculty needs; assisting faculty in developing laboratory assignments; determining supplies and materials necessary for experiments; managing an assigned budget; managing inventory through purchases and verification; coordinating and assisting students in lab exercises; and preparing and revising laboratory operation manuals.  Incumbents in this level oversee the complete lab operations and work with faculty to ensure educational aspects and objectives are achieved.

Compensation: $44,319.64 - $55,399.55

Requirements:

Education:

Certified Prosthetic Orthotist and/or Licensed Prosthetic Orthotist. Bachelor's degree preferred.

 

Experience:

Two (2) years experience in the field of O&P. Three (3) years supervisory experience preferred.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, and oils.

Organizes the cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of the laboratory facilities; orders inventory and supplies when necessary; and schedules necessary laboratory equipment repairs.
