Senior Accountant [ID: 63]
Position Summary:

Assists the Accounting and Financial Services Department with general accounting duties for the College including the Collegiate High Schools, and the direct service organizations. Responsibilities include reviewing and researching trial balances, preparing journal entries, balancing of the general ledger accounts, cash and treasury management, internal controls, assisting with audits, and preparation of financial reports and other annual reports.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Assists the Director of Accounting Services in directing and supervising the financial and business affairs of the college;
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for all the Collegiate High Schools including monthly financial statements reports, budget creation, monitoring and forecasting processes;
  • Assists in the coordination and the activities of the general accounting area;
  • Assists the Director of Accounting Services in ensuring college compliance with the State accounting and reporting directives and GASB reporting requirements;
  • Assists with the monthly and year end closing of the college books including accrual adjustments, analysis of accounts and closing entries;
  • Maintains viable internal controls and balances for the college funds as required by law;
  • Assists the Director in coordinating the annual audit by the State of Florida Auditor General’s audit staff
  • Assists with the coordination and provision of fiscal rules, procedures, internal controls and end-user training on the financial system to college staff.

This is the second of four levels in the Accounting/Finance Professional series.  The classification is responsible for performing complex professional accounting transactions and reporting that requires the application of general accounting principles. Responsibilities may include developing project or department budgets; interpreting grant and contract regulations and their relation to College accounting procedures; preparing financial statements and reports for internal and external audiences; researching the source and cause of discrepancies in accounting systems; maintaining the integrity of accounting systems; developing financial projections based on previous activity; and preparing and approving journal entries and financial transactions.  Incumbents may act as a lead to lower level accounting staff.

Compensation: $55,952.53 - $69,940.66

Requirements:

Education:

Five (5) years experience in higher education or public accounting. Prefer experience with the functional and/or technical requirements of financial enterprise systems (PeopleSoft preferred)

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking,  grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
