Career Outreach Specialist [ID: 669]
Position Summary:

This position is responsible for facilitating career exploration and development through articulation and professional interactions with business and industry. This position focuses on recruiting and retaining students in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Facilitates career exploration support services to develop student awareness of CTE opportunities and related articulations;
  • Works closely with Program Deans and the Director of Workforce Services in the advisement of students concerning the choice of activities to meet their goals in CTE programs;
  • Develops and uses advising resources to promote student retention and progression;
  • Assists in identifying, facilitating, creating, promoting and maintaining articulation agreements;
  • Assists in training on Career Pathways and articulations to college and county school district personnel;
  • May participate in Advisory Committee activities and perform related administrative functions;
  • Collaborates with others to implement job-readiness activities outside of the classroom;
  • Assists with the development of marketing materials for CTE Programs.

This is the first of six levels in the Student Support Professional series.  The classification is responsible for providing complete organizational information and services to students and prospective students in single areas or across a number of disciplines that may include admissions, financial aid, academic advising, career services, international students, and disability services.   This level is differentiated from the previous level by the focus on providing professional-level career counseling and/or academic advisement and providing direct student assistance in career development activities; incumbents are responsible for coordinating internal and external partnerships to enhance services; making referrals for resources to assist in the students' career and educational success; and serving as a liaison between high schools, students, employers, and departments within the college.

Compensation: $44,319.64 - $55,399.55

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in related field to assigned area.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience in a field relating to the project assigned. Community relations and teaching experience preferred. 

*An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

  • Make presentations and effectively communicate with both employers and representatives from secondary and postsecondary education;

  • Advising students on academic, finance or career issues;
  • Providing customer service;
  • Promoting services;
  • Researching service delivery methods;
  • Creating resumes and cover letters;
  • Maintaining records;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Provides direct and comprehensive career counseling, advising, and student development guidance which includes networking with employers and community leaders to obtain information on job opportunities and facilitate job referrals; initiating, creating, and coordinating programs designed to help students create award-winning resumes and cover letters, interviewing and job search skills, and/or other related items; and/or performing related duties.

Develops, manages, and communicates resources through program promotions, class presentations, training sessions, and faculty and community partnerships.
