Curriculum Development Specialist [ID: 84]
Position Summary:

Provides curriculum development consulting, training, skill-building, design and support services including using “best-fit” technology to improve instruction and strengthen curriculum. Identifies trends, gathers and analyzes data, recommends standards, and implements curriculum technology development plans. Uses emerging educational techniques and technologies to develop alternative assessment strategies to integrate into course development. Provides a leadership role in a team environment to advance technology-enhanced curriculum development, courses and instructional programs.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Influences and specializes in curriculum development using technology to design, develop, and implement training and other educational programs;
  • Designs, develops, implements and/or coordinates the development of computerized media such as instructional web pages and online courses;
  • Implements and maintains instructional technology systems used for departmental use;
  • Mentors curriculum designers and project coordinators in the design and development of technology-enhanced courses, including blended and online courses;
  • Evaluates current instructional technologies and disseminates appropriate recommendations to faculty.

The classification is responsible for developing and selecting curriculum and support materials for new or revised courses.  Responsibilities may include researching new technologies, developments, discoveries, and trends in area of assignment; determining course content; writing course modules; maintaining and monitoring a program schedule; and designing internet-based training materials.  Incumbents may deliver courses as a classroom instructor.

Compensation: $44,319.64 - $55,399.55

Requirements:

Education:

Master’s degree in instructional technology, adult education, curriculum planning or in a related field to assigned area. 

Experience:

Three (3) years experience in instructional design, computer-based training, course development, instruction or related areas. Classroom teaching experience required. Background in multimedia production, distance learning technologies and web design is preferred. Project management skills and experience required.  Experience with federal contracts preferred.

  • Ability to create course storyboards and outlines, objectives and requirements for training and instruction;
  • Excellent consulting, coaching and client skills;
  • Familiarity with networking protocols and multiple hardware platforms and related software products.
  • Designing curriculum and course modules;
  • Recommending, updating, and utilizing teaching technologies;
  • Researching teaching trends and technologies;
  • Preparing educational plans and materials;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
