Accessibility Services Coordinator [ID: 888]
Position Summary:

Primary contact person on campus for students with disabilities. Approves, oversees, arranges, and/or provides accommodations and support services for qualified students, in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Responsibilities include evaluation of documentation presented; implementing or arranging support services; providing group and individual faculty training; liaison between teaching faculty and their program students, representing department in course and event planning and implementation, representing department on campus academic and student affairs committees, and communicating department and individual student needs to campus administration.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Conduct screenings, inquiries, and interviews with current or prospective students, community agencies, family members, private practice professionals, and other learning institutions regarding SPC services   for individuals with disabilities, including providing information regarding appropriate documentation;
  • Evaluate and interpret existing documentation of disability and maintain original documentation files;
  • Assign accommodations for students, including but not limited to: academic services, testing adaptations, changes of format or location, physical adaptations, and assistive technology;
  • Train and serve as liaison between individual deans, faculty, advisors, instructional technologists and students to ensure provision of accommodations, course design, troubleshooting problems and mediating solutions when challenges arise;
  • Recruit and consult with feeder schools’ Varying Exceptionalities Specialists and guidance counselors. Conduct outreach activities to students who have inquired about the college’s accessibility services;
  • Serve on campus course substitutions, alternate satisfaction, academic waiver, and discipline committees as needed;
  • Intervene and troubleshoot with administrative decisions to ensure college-wide consistency and compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and American with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADAAA) of 2008; including OCR (Office of Civil Rights) complaints;
  • Partner with Career and Academic Advisors to case manage and develop plans for success and retention of students with disabilities through the College Experience, utilizing the college’s premier student success initiatives;
  • Analyze student retention data and take appropriate actions to promote student success utilizing a wide range of software and computer systems to track and analyze student progress;
  • Conduct training for students in self-advocacy skills and learning strategies, including involvement in Smart Start Orientations;
  • Complete all reports and evaluations as required by district, state, and federal regulations;
  • Coordinate services with Vocational Rehabilitation and other agencies on behalf of students with disabilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Incumbents in this class focus on providing professional-level support services to students and prospective students in single areas or across a number of disciplines that may include admissions, financial aid, academic advising, career services, international students, and disability services.  In addition to providing student support services, incumbents are responsible for developing internal and external partnerships to enhance services; conducting program assessment and evaluation to ensure effective delivery of services; making referrals for resources to assist in the students' career and educational success; and serving as a liaison between high schools, students, employers, and the college.   Incumbents in this class perform professional-level student support activities and may have formal supervisory responsibility for program staff.

Compensation: $55,952.53 - $69,940.66

Requirements:

Education:

Master's degree in a related field to assigned area, doctorate preferred. Background in counseling, exceptional education, rehabilitation, or similar field strongly preferred.

Experience:

One (1) year experience working with students with disabilities, cognitive test instrument interpretation, and adaptive curriculum and equipment. Experience in working with postsecondary faculty and students preferred.

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
