Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Grants Development, the Grant Writer will be responsible for the development, writing, editing and submission of grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies (local, state and federal). Additional responsibilities will include: researching and disseminating funding source information to the college community; preparing proposals budgets and budget revisions; coordinating cross-functional teams; supporting the grant management process; and assisting in other activities that support the grant office. The position requires expertise in grant writing, excellent communication skills, experience in needs assessment and analysis, as well as the ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Assist in the design of an annual grant development plan based on SPC's strategic priorities and potential funding sources.
  • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external working groups involved in proposal/program design; external groups may include representatives from schools, state and community agencies, employers, and workforce development agencies.
  • Keep abreast of changing state, federal and private foundation grant standards and proposal guidelines.
  • Write, edit, and submit grant proposals that include needs analysis, goals, objectives, activities, evaluation strategies, timelines, budget and supporting data.
  • Manage and assemble all materials for grant submissions including, but not limited to, proposal forms, concept papers, budgets, letters of support, and memorandum of agreement.
  • Develop in conjunction with the budget office, accurate budgets and financial plans/documentation.
  • Coordinate the timely execution of grant submissions.
  • Ensure each project or program meets all proposal conditions and requirements.
  • Keep detailed records of deadlines and application status.
  • Prepares all correspondence and paperwork necessary to fulfill SPC Board of Trustees requirements for board approval of grant submission and modifications.
  • Performs related duties as required.

This is the first of two levels in the Grant Development series. Incumbents research grant opportunities and write grant proposals.  Responsibilities may include identifying and communicating funding opportunities; coordinating the development of proposal budgets; writing proposals and/or coordinating the proposal writing process; and monitoring the progress of submitted proposals.

Compensation: $25.38 - $31.72

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in related area.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience in higher education, federal government, state government or industry working as a grant writer in the related grant field. 
  • Extensive, highly related, demonstrated success as primary writer in obtaining local, state and/or federal grants/contracts. 
  • Experience in researching, developing and writing proposals to government and private funding sources including development of curriculum/programs, budgets and budget narratives and letters of commitment. 
  • Experience in electronic submission including Grants.gov and FastLane.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
