Career Pathways Outreach Specialist [ID: 903]
Position Summary:

This position is responsible for facilitating career exploration and development through articulation and professional interactions with business and industry. This position focuses on recruiting and retaining students in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs as part of the Perkins grant.

 Typical Essential Duties

  • Plans, organizes, implements, and coordinates major events and projects.
  • Oversees the development, printing, and distribution of printed and video marketing materials for CTE Programs and articulation agreements in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Analyzes data relating to workforce programs and career services and prepares reports.
  • Maintains or supervises the maintenance of participants spreadsheets and database to track the progress of students;
  • Researches methods for continuous improvement.
  • Administers all aspects of the specific project;
  • Coordinates record keeping, reporting evaluation and financial matters of the project.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the project.
  • Participates in the recruitment and retention activities of student or participants in the specific project.
  • Performs research and gathers technical data to improve the project.

This is the first of six levels in the Student Support Professional series.  The classification is responsible for providing complete organizational information and services to students and prospective students in single areas or across a number of disciplines that may include admissions, financial aid, academic advising, career services, international students, and disability services.   This level is differentiated from the previous level by the focus on providing professional-level career counseling and/or academic advisement and providing direct student assistance in career development activities; incumbents are responsible for coordinating internal and external partnerships to enhance services; making referrals for resources to assist in the students' career and educational success; and serving as a liaison between high schools, students, employers, and departments within the college.

Compensation: $44,319.64 - $55,399.55

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a related field to assigned area.

Experience:

Three (3) years experience in a field relating to the project assigned. Community relations and teaching experience preferre

Responsibilities:

As Required

Event Planning

  1. Design and implement events and communications for academic and student support program advisory committees.
  2. Serve as liaison for industry certification testing and track certification progress toward goals for academic departments.
  3. Create, design and facilitate CTE educational programs and online educational resources for SPC career advisors and Pinellas County Schools personnel about CTE programs and articulation agreements.
  4. Develop and implement events for Pinellas County School students and the community to promote CTE programs and guide prospective CTE students.
  5. Utilize effective project management tools, including Gantt charts, for all major projects.

Metrics and Continuous Improvement

  1. Conduct analyses of data of career services metrics and design presentations on a weekly basis.
  2. Actively research and review best practices, training materials, and policies and procedures on SharePoint and on the internet for other benchmark colleges.
  3. Track social media activities and suggest improvements to meet goals for continuous improvement.

Communications and Outreach

  1. Oversee part-time team members to facilitate design and development of new CTE marketing collateral, including printed and video material, as well as printing and distribution in an efficient manner.
  2. Oversee part-time team members’ design and implementation of communications and outreach to current and prospective CTE students, such as about articulation agreements, programs of study, industry certification, academic/career pathways, completion, internships, and placement, in close communication with the career pathways team.
  3. Oversee part-time team members’ contribution to department’s SharePoint sites with accurate and current information in a timely manner.
  4. Participate in social media outreach team, including writing blog and social media posts on a frequent basis.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Assist with grant writing, reporting, and monitoring, including detailed monitoring of budget.
  2. Complete a variety of tasks, including analyzing complex data, preparing business correspondence using correct grammar and formatting, etc., often on short deadlines.
  3. Assist with purchasing, receiving, and tracking grant expenditures.
  4. Assist with calendaring of meetings using MS Outlook, Doodle, etc.
  5. Train, prioritize and assign work to temporary team members on methods and procedures.

Working Environment

  1. As this is an administrative and professional position, it requires a minimum of 40 hours of work a week, with some evenings and/or weekends required to meet deadlines for projects and for events.
  2. Demonstrate timely, effective communication and follow-through with requests for information within the department and with other stakeholders on a regular basis.
