Public Relations Specialist [ID: 912]
Position Summary:

Responsibiities will include the following: researches local and national targeted media audiences; writes and disseminates press releases and media briefs; assists with the facilitation of media requests; coordinates and supports sharing of college news through multiple social and digital channels; and monitors, analyzes, and reports on media coverage. Works with multiple college departments, community and business partners, and academic programs to create timely and relevant media pitches. Assists with various facets of media relations, including cultivating media relationships, targeting specified media for appropriate storytelling, and packaging content as desired. Effectively uses social media to extend reach.

Typical Essential Duties

  • Writing, proofing and editing press releases, media briefs, news articles, feature stories and other publication pieces, as needed.
  • Conducting general research for content cultivation.
  • Researching local and national news stories to develop media pitches in line with media trends.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the college’s brand identity through positive media coverage.
  • Cultivating positive relationships with media sources, and expanding the college’s reach with local and national journalists and publications.
  • Interacting with college employees, students, and departments, and community stakeholders to develop internal and external news, feature stories, and other communication for internal and external dissemination.
  • Recording and analysis of all positive media pitches.
Compensation: $15.58 - $23.05

Requirements:

Education:

Associate's degree in related field.

Experience:

Two (2) years of knowledge in public relations‬ strategies and tactics.‬ Command of public relations and feature writing. Excellent, hands-on skills in grammar, writing, AP style, proofreading and editorship.

Preferred experience working in a public or media relations capacity.

  • Skills in cultivating interpersonal relationships with media sources and college stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills using current word processing, database, project management or spreadsheet software. Ability to use content management systems.
  • Skills in utilizing and navigating multiple social media tools.
  • Excellent judgement on what makes a compelling story.
  • Ability to craft statements, letters and other communications for executive staff.
  • Ability to plan and implement public and media relations and communications campaigns to address multiple audiences.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to electrical currents, dusts, extreme temperatures, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
