Position Summary:

STEM Director Position Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Services to Student Groups
  • Recruit students for CTE STEM Programs, efforts focused on non-traditional students and those underrepresented in the field
  • Create a weekly blog posts for students highlighting student accomplishments, projects, upcoming activities, internship opportunities, etc.
  • Execute special events for STEM students such as a STEM festival at SPC
  1. Individual Student Services
  • Mentor, tutor and advise STEM students
  • Assess student needs and identify/implement appropriate interventions and retention strategies
  1. Student Employment Exposure/Placement
  • Connect students with internships and job placement opportunities
  • Identify and work with STEM constituents to establish outreach activities and employer pipelines for students
  • Implement service learning and problem-based learning activities to enhance the student’s learning experience
  1. High School Student Engagement
  • Deliver STEM-related activities for high-school students in coordination with Pinellas County Public Schools
  • Outreach to high school counselors, new and potential students, and relevant teachers for STEM programs.
  1. Administrative Tasks
  • Conduct joint faculty-student services personnel professional development for improved advisement in STEM
  • Monitor and document program outcomes and objectives for STEM A.S. Degrees
  • Create promotional collateral for current and future students to access their academic degree plan to include information on median salary, growth potential, and internship sites
  • Participate in needs assessment for new and emerging programs in STEM to meet the needs of students based on emerging trends

The classification is responsible for performing professional and/or program management duties in academic related specialties in a single department or function.  Incumbents will manage the daily activities, develop plans to approach projects, implement solutions, and perform professional level work in assigned area.  Incumbents are responsible for supervising employees or student workers, and developing and monitoring a budget.

Compensation: $62,868.26 - $78,585.33

Requirements:

Education:

Master's degree in Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics or in a related field to assigned area.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience of program management in assigned area.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. 
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Manages staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations, submits justifications for budget items, and monitors and controls expenditures.

Manages the implementation of internal operations for an assigned academic department or program, which includes: planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, standards, and/or service offerings; ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards; coordinating activities between multiple service areas; and working to integrate and coordinate service areas.

Prepares, reviews, and interprets a variety of applications, agreements, forms, records, needs assessments, business correspondence, and reports; makes recommendations based on findings.

Responds to requests for information from faculty, staff, students, outside agencies, and community regarding academic or operational programs in assigned area of responsibility; researches and resolves issues, complaints, and/or other related problems; provides information to students as necessary.
