Position Summary:

This full-time position is responsible for the accounting functions of the Institute for Strategic Policy Solutions, which is a 501c3 non-profit direct service organization of St. Petersburg College. This position will be responsible for all aspects of financial reporting, record keeping, and maintaining internal controls. Responsibilities include performing complex accounting transactions and reporting that requires the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); preparing journal entries and financial transactions; preparing department budgets; preparing financial statements and reports for internal and external audiences; researching and correcting discrepancies in accounting systems; maintaining the integrity of accounting systems; developing financial projections based on previous activity.  This position requires discretion and judgment with respect to donor and student confidentiality.

 

Typical Essential Duties

 

  • Manages cash flow requirements and reporting; including bank reconciliations
  • Accounts payable/receivable;
  • Prepares reports related to budget, investments and banking accounts;
  • Manages tax and compliance requirements;
  • Implements and maintains a system of internal controls and security over the Institute’s financial transactions and assets.
  • Develops and follows standard accounting practices and procedures;
  • Works with external partners on the annual audit, providing reports, data analysis, and supporting documentation;
  • Tracks donors/donations made as charitable contributions
  • Works with internal departments of the College such as Human Resources, Accounts Payable, and Budgeting and is familiar with fund accounting.
  • Maintains up-to-date records for all the 501c3 accounts and regularly provides related information/reports to the Institute’s leadership.
Compensation: $62,868.26 - $78,585.33

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, business or in a related field; Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida preferred.

Experience:

Five (5) years’ experience in the accounting or auditing field; non-profit experience preferred.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Reconciles, audits, and balances Foundation’s bank and investment accounts and internal fund accounts; prepares transactions and expenditures; reviews and analyzes data, projects revenues and expenses; reviews invoices and contracts; researches/corrects account discrepancies.

Prepares, reviews and modifies budgets and budget reports; tracks revenues and expenditures; determines cash requirements, prepares request for liquidation of assets as needed, verifies transfer; prepares journal entries; provides financial information/reports as requested by Foundation management.

Develops and maintains reporting for investment earnings of gains, losses and interest allocation. Prepares schedules and financial reports which may include: reviewing accounts for accuracy and discrepancies; performing costs analyses.  Assesses and maintains accounting systems; performs related activities.

Reviews statements, contracts, and reconciliations to internal accounts and to and from and departments, financial institutions, and external agencies; prepares reports based on findings.

Performs other duties of a similar nature. Participates in Foundation activities as requested.
