Assistant Director, Retention Services [ID: 954]
Position Summary:

Responsible for identifying and coordinating services and activities that will enhance the success and retention of underrepresented and under-prepared students and encourage more students to attend college. Works with student services personnel to develop and enhance special programs that increase the retention of underrepresented college students.

The classification is responsible for coordinating and implementing registration and academic records services for the College.  Responsibilities may include providing information to students on academic requirements; approving admission of new students; ensuring compliance with organizational policy; and performing the duties of the lower levels.

Compensation: $62,868.26 - $78,585.33

Requirements:

Education:

Master's degree in a related field. Degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or Higher Education Administration preferred.

Experience:

Four (4) years experience working with underrepresented/under-prepared and First-Time-in-College (FTIC) students.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of education administration;
  • Academic program requirements;
  • Customer service principles;
  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes;
  • Diverse populations and cultures;
  • Computers and related software applications.

Skills:

  • Ability to work with students, faculty and administrators in program development;
  • Effective public, and written communications skills;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Ability to multitask;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects (projects may be unrelated);
  • Management and supervisory skills;
  • Human relations skills;
  • Advising students on applicable policies and procedures;

  • Interpreting academic program requirements;
  • Reviewing and processing paperwork, forms, and/or other related items;

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and evaluates special programs designed to enhance persistence and retention in college prep areas to identify effectiveness, technical assistance needs and expansion opportunities. Establish procedures for program operation;
  • Works with program directors and student services personnel to identify and develop new methods and techniques to improve student recruitment and retention in college prep;
  • Assists in the development of additional grant proposals to expand existing services and programs as well as to provide new programs;
  • Continue communication and coordination of Enhanced Teaching and Learning component specifically related to Academic Learning Toolkits and the Virtual Learning Commons;
  • Identifies and provides staff development activities to enhance student services and program improvement in the college prep areas;
  • Maintains DOE sustainability report for the Title III Strengthening Institutional Programs (SIP) grant;
  • Participates as a member of various college committees;
  • Performs related duties as required.
