Assistant House Manager [ID: 962]
Position Summary:

Responsible for coordinating all front of house activities during an event at the Palladium Theater, either directly or by supervising temporary house managers assigned to the event. Responsibilities may include recruitment training, coordination, scheduling and management of volunteer staff; maintenance, sales, supervision, inventory of concessions; presence at events; maintaining records and preparing operational reports; maintaining and scheduling temporary house management and concessions staff.

Responsibilities:

  •  Recruit, train, coordinate, schedule and manage volunteer staff.
  •  Maintain, supervise, inventory and evaluate effectiveness of concessions.
  •  Regular, formalized communications with volunteers (online or in print).
  •  Produce accurate and detailed performance reports.
  •  Oversee all activities leading up to and during performance events.
  •  Research and gather as much information about the event and product as possible.
  •  Provide stage management services as appropriate.
  •  During event, coordinate communication among performer, crew and house; maintain a scheduled intermission; resume event after an intermission — having checked backstage, crew and front of house.
  •  Assure a pleasant and personable atmosphere at all events and for all  volunteers and crew.
  •  Respond to patron and vendor requests.
  •  Assure patrons’ and artists’ safety and welfare before, during and after event.
  •  Responsible for restoring theater after events and nightly lock-up of building and Supplies.
  •  Maintain and schedule temporary house management and concessions staff.
  •  Be prepared to handle a medical emergency or patron disturbance.
  •  Performs related duties as required.

Incumbents support theatrical productions by coordinating the scheduling and production aspects of an assigned performance space. 

Compensation: $17.36 - $21.71

Requirements:

Education:

Associate's degree in theater or a related field. Bachelor's degree perferred.

Experience:

Minimum three (3) years experience as stage manager or house manager with a professional theater organization.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all elements of live theater, including educational, community and professional.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
