Typical Essential Duties
This class is the fifth of six levels in the Library Services series. Incumbents maintain, records, preserves and promote the historical collections of the library. Responsibilities may include establishing archival policy for special collections; analyzing and appraising items to determine value for collection; cataloging and classifying books, papers, artifacts, and other materials; preparing and planning archival programs; developing finding aids; and maintaining the collections.
Requirements:
Education:
Master’s degree from ALA accredited program with course work or concentration in archival procedures, management, and preservation required.
Experience:
Two (2) years of professional experience as a Librarian. Experience in archives collection processing and management preferred. Experience with automated storage and retrieval systems, electronic records, database design/management, and electronic publication.
* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Responds to inquiries from researchers; assists researchers in accessing archival materials; coordinates archival programs. |

May prioritize and assign work to lower level staff; monitor the performance of lower level staff; train staff on work methods and procedures; and participate on staff evaluations. |
