Hello my name is Mrs. Darlene Davis Parvin, MA+:
My instructional background includes ten plus years teaching Understanding Art, Art History I,
Art History II, and Humanities courses at SPC (2001 to present). In addition to teaching college adults,
I implemented the first High School SPC/Dual-Credit Humanities Program (Spring 2005 to present) at
class lectures and discussions on to a "smart" format. My education includes a strong and
diverse backgound which provides the necessary skills and education to reach out to high school dual enrollment and adult
students of all ages, and from cross-cultural backgrounds within the Tampa Bay area.
Prior to my current teaching career, my primary work experience concentrated in the museum and
art management fields: Curator of Education, designing and implementing school tours and studio
class programs for adults and children; developing children’s art-smart hands-on activities; catalog and
educational written text, directed internship program; developed state and local grants; administered
educational budgets; developed community outreach programs, directed adult volunteer and docent
training programs, and managed educational staffing. I recently transfered my museum
and buisness skills to include an active involvement within the
and Post - Secondary Educator, holding a current State of Florida Social Science, grades 6-12 certificate.
My acquired achievements as an Art Historian are many: symposium lecturer, slide librarian,
exhibition installer, special events coordinator, fundraiser and development organizer, and varying
computer administrative experiences. However, I continue to strive to inspire excellence within
my college and dual-credit Humanities students by attending professional development
classes; and through essay award winning recipients, and most recently, first place award winner at
the Pinellas County History Fair presenting a performance dramatization about the history of writing in
ancient times (May 2005 - present). Currently, I teach AP World History and Dual Enrollment at Dixie Hollins High School.
I offer a MA + degree in Art History from Florida State University (earning an Assistantship in the
FSU Art History Slide Library - garnishing such skills in cataloging, bookkeeping), a Double Bachelor
of Arts in Art History and Arts Administration from Salem College, NC (Interned with MOMA, NYC:
- Andy Warhol Retrospect and NMWA, Washington, DC, Education Dept.).
My most memorable and awesome time in my life that has been my career and life inspiration came
when I spent four years managing a fine arts gallery in
(Summer 1993)
Roman ruines and antiquities thoughout Europe and the Middle East. I continue to travel, which provides highlights and
interesting antodotes within my classroom lectures and continues to enhance my classroom discussions with primary sources,
objects, and images.
Beyond my educational background and travel experiences, I have upheld a continual dedication to
life-long learning, and a committed passion to achieve the highest quality educational programming
within the secondary high school and community college environment. I believe my personnal teaching mission is to improve the
community’s awareness and appreciation of the humanities and visual arts through essential and
challaging hands-on educational programming. For many years I have personnally been committed to
the improvement of local community resources, such as museums, theater, and music venues in and
around the Tampa Bay area. I enjoy working in unison with SPC (a strong community oriented
education facility) to provide the highest standards in Art and Humanities curriculum and student
achievement for all ages in the
consequently my name is llegally changed to Darlene Davis Parvin.
I look forward to our mutual colaboration and you're many successes!
Darlene Davis Parvin, Dual Enrollment Adjunct Faculty and Faculty at Dixie M. Hollins High School
