My work experience began briefly as a CNA when I finished HS before I went into the Army National Guard.
I was in the Army for 6 years. Never deployed, our platoon was on stand by for Desert Storm. This was all happening while I was in school to become a radiologic technologist. I was a radiologic technologist for 10 years. I worked in all areas of the hospital, from working with the pediatric population, doing special procedures, mammography, fluroscopy, CT scan, in the OR, ER, and ICU units.
From there I went back to school to become a nurse and received my ADN. I went immediatrly from school into Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. I worked in that field for 14 years, and specialized in acute lymphoblastic leukemia, solid tumors such as Wilm's tumor, neuroblastoma, medulloblastoma, Ewing sarcoma, and osteosarcoma. I became the solid tumor nurse coordinator, the only one in the upper east coast. I was part of the NMTRC (neuroblastoma medulloblastoma translational research consortium). I cared for patients that travelled to CT from NY, NH, NJ, RI, Mass, and one patient from Morroco. During this time I completed my BSN.
I then moved to Florida (from CT), worked in a small pediatric in-patient unit, for almost 3 years. During that time I had finished my MSN, passed my boards and am now a FNP. As a nurse practitioner I initially worked in a pediatric office and during COVID I also worked in a pediatric urgent care center. A few years ago I joined SPC as a adjunct clinical instructor, which I loved, but I left for a few years to work full-time in a very busy Primary Care Practice, and now I'm back. I hope I can help pave a smooth path for you as you start your journey as a nurse.
