Higher education is a vibrant, interactive, collaborative portal through which we share ever evolving information that shapes lives, careers, and connections with others. My formal education includes a BA in Behavioral Science (Psychology and Sociology) from Erskine College, A Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Georgia, a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) from Emory University, and a Ph.D in Public Administration/American Government from the University of Georgia.
My teaching philosophy is grounded by the paradigm that students should use their minds, their voices, their passions, their experiences, and their environment to pursue the truth. Having taught for over 20 years, I am more convinced of this. One of my favorite quotes is from Dr. Benjamin E. Mayes who warns that the danger in life is not failure, but complacency and not living up to our capabilities.
My research interests include the study of resiliency and what factors influence how peopIe rebound from adversity. Personally, I enjoy books, particularly urban literature, jazz, golf, travel and teaching.
