I began teaching at SPC in August 2010 at the Clearwater campus. In the Spring 2012 I was hired as a full-time faculty member for the Gibbs campus where I have been teaching ever since. I teach Introduction to Humanities, East/West Synthesis, and Western Humanities I.

I have a working knowledge of Classical Latin and Ancient Greek and can fumble about with some French.
Brief Philosophy of Teaching the Humanities:
1. I believe in teaching passionately from my areas of expertise which energizes my students, gets them excited about what I am excited about, and makes them feel comfortable. Whether you enroll in my HUM 2270 East/West Synthesis Class for a global, comparative look at the most significant and influential civilizations and worldviews that continue to shape who we are today or enroll in my HUM 1020 Introduction to the Humanities class for an engaging personal exploration of how the various disciplines of the Humanities can enrich your life and help you find ultimate meaning, students can expect to specialize in the following subject areas of the Humanities: Philosophy and Logic, Mythology, Religion, Morality/Ethics, Literature, and the Visual and Performing Arts.
2. I believe that my dedication to my own professional development and developing expertise needs to be shared with my students and not kept just within academic circles. I value professional compentency in and out of the classroom, read widely in and beyond my field, and believe in creating my own lessons, lecture notes, and technological presentations from scratch. I do not believe in just teaching to the textbook; I believe in going beyond the textbook to show students how to apply the Humanities in their vocational field and personal lives.
3. I believe intellectual transparency and a sense of humor is needed before my students so that they have a potential good role model to learn from. This in turn fosters positive personal connections with my students which is extremely important to me. I pride myself on being available, approachable, and affable for each of my students every day.
I hope you will enroll in my class!
