Teaching Philosophy:
I see education as a collaborative  process that involves both the student and the professor.  What we do in the classroom should serve to inform what we do outside of it, just as what we do outside the classroom should help drive our discussions inside.  Education is not a seat in a classroom, nor is it the books that you read.  It's the result of time spent wrestling with the questions of our times and the discussions we have about them.
I try to make the classroom as collaborative and interactive as possible.  To this end, I encourage questions from students whenever possible and I avoid lecture when possible.  The classroom should not be a place that students dread or endure.  I had some professors that created that environment when I was in school and I've made it a priority to not replicate that in my own classes.  Rather, I strive to create a safe, inclusive, relaxed environment were we can explore our content and make connections to the world outside.
