Dr. Shirley Collar Ph.D., RHIA

Dr. Collar is a graduate of the Health Information Management program at St. Petersburg College and received her RHIT credentials from AHIMA in 1996 and her RHIA credentials in 2005.

Mrs Collar began teaching at St. Petersburg College shortly after graduation in the HIM program and has continued teaching ever since. She holds a Bachelors degree in Behavioral Science and a Masters degree in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University in Tampa. She has a  Ph.D. in Leadership and Education with a specialization in Higher Ed Administration from Barry University.

She came to St. Petersburg College with a strong 35 year background in Health Information and Management including HIM Area manager for five long term care facilities, Healthcare marketing and public relations, and Area Operations manager for the West coast of Florida specializing in security, confidentiality, and release of information.

In her spare time she loves hanging out with her husband James, their multiple cats, camping, reading, gardening, quilt making, and crafts.
