Professor George M. Greenlee is a native of Florida who grew up in Tampa.  After completing his primary and secondary education in the Hillsborough County public schools, he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned a BA in economics.  While attending the alma mater of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. he became involved in political activities, civil rights demonstrations and Pan African movements. During his undergraduate years at Morehouse he served internships in the U.S. Senate and the Georgia Legislature.  After leaving Morehouse, Professor Greenlee attended graduate school at Atlanta University where he earned an MBA degree in finance with an economics minor.
Upon receiving his graduate degree, Professor Greenlee moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to work as an investment analyst and financial planner.  In 1985 he returned to the Tampa Bay area and in 1989 became an adjunct professor at St. Petersburg College (formerly St. Petersburg Junior College).  In 1991 he became a fulltime faculty member in the Social Science Department on the Clearwater campus.  At SPC he served as chair of Clearwater Campus Faculty Council for six years and President of the SPC Faculty Senate for three years.  He has also been a Project Success mentor to minority students and was a fellow in the Excel Leadership Program at the University of South Florida.  Professor Greenlee ran for political office in 1994 for a seat on the Hillsborough County Commission.  Currently, he is a Professor of economics on the Clearwater campus and a member of the Honors College faculty. He is also the SPC Social Science Critical Thinking Faculty Champion, with responsibility for developing a critical thinking instructional portfolio. In addition, Greenlee is a member of the SPC SACS working group, which is preparing the college’s five year interim accreditation report for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Colleges.   Professor Greenlee is a charter member of the Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke chapter of NCBAA.  Prof. Greenlee has been a participant in several seminars and conferences on teaching economics in Pittsburgh, Houston, Tallahassee, Atlanta and Savannah.

In Spring, 2017 Professor Greenlee along with Professor Roy Slater (Government) led a group of students on a Study Abroad trip to The Republic of South Africa.
