Hello, my name is Gary Sevelin. I was born Sep 9, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa but was raised in Tampa, FL until I joined the US Army in Feb 1975. I retired from the US Army in Oct 1999 after over 24 years of active service. During my time in the US Army I have lived or visited many different countries. I have been to Europe (Germany, France, England, Luxemburg, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Greece, and Turkey). I have spent some time in Southwest Asia (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, and Iraq) as well as the Far East (South Korea and Japan). After retiring I stayed in South Korea to work as a Department of Defense contractor. I returned to the United States in Aug 2004 after working in Seoul, South Korea.

I met my wife while in South Korea and we married in Feb 2004. I quit my job and moved back to the United States in Aug 2004 because she was accepted to Miami International University of Art and Design where she studied Visual Effects for media.

After many trials that accompany such a huge move I settled in Miami. It is true, with age comes wisdom and that’s why I went back to school in Feb 2005. Even with my military training and my work experience along with my certifications in the Information Technology field I found it difficult to find employment that does not require a college diploma. So after many years of not believing that I needed to further my education I now believe that in today’s society that a college education is very important.

I went back to school in Feb 2005 and after completing my Bachelor of Science degree in Sep 2007 with the University of Phoenix Online I started submitting resumes showing that I completed my bachelor degree at the beginning of 2008 and within one month I accepted a position with Raytheon Cyber Defense Section in Largo, Florida as a Commercial off the shelf (COTS) Integration and Information Assurance Engineer. This position came at the right time as we were expecting our first child in Apr 2008.

I completed my Master Degree in Dec 2012 and I am now a firm believer in continuing education. I currently hold CISSP certification and recently received my Certified Chief Information Security Officer certification.
