My Educational Background:
  • Masters of Science in Nursing - Clnical Nurse Leader, University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus
  • Bachelors of Art in German Studies, University of California, Los Angeles
Experience:

My nursing experience is in intensive care unit, particularly in the cardiac and cardiovascular setting. I have been practicing as a nurse since 2017. I continue to practice at the bedside in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Teaching Philosophy:

As a nurse, I have learned that my advocacy profoundly impacts the experience, plan of care, and outcomes of my patients and their families during their hospitalization in the intensive care units. I have also learned that it is necessary to have interdisciplinary collaboration across hospital staff to incorporate a holistic approach for the patient. In order to accomplish these key goals, I believe that strong patient assessment, critical-thinking, and constructive communication skills are necessary. In the classroom, students will develop these skills by mock-patient exercises, case-study scenarios, self-reflection assignments, and group discussions, therefore preparing them as they enter their nursing profession. My philosophy as a teacher is to impart students with strong fundamental nursing skills and a patient-centered mentality for their success not only academically, but as well as professionally.

I believe in order for the student have a successful learning environment there are four (4) essential roles of a teacher: (1) to facilitate the disbursement of knowledge, rather than be an authority figure (2) to provide opportunities for students to apply and practice what they have learned through hands-on activities, (3) to provide students with a variation of instructional methods whether it is online-based assignments or traditional class lectures, (4) to foster a safe environment for students to grow intellectually and explore their ideas by scaffolding assignments and providing collaborative projects. As an educator and professional, it is my responsibility to supplement their clinical experiences and strengthen fundamental knowledge in order to help my students succeed throughout their journey in the nursing and healthcare profession.
