I am a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Chicago, I have an M.A. from U.C.L.A., and I have a post-graduate degree from the Sorbonne at the University of Paris.  I have been fascinated since childhood with foreign cultures and languages, and these interests led me into the field of teaching both French and Humanities.

I usually never teach during the summer because I like to use that time for traveling.  I have lived in many parts of the world (in Europe, Asia, and South America) for extended periods of time and have visited a lot of other places during my vacations.  I have seen first-hand an incredible number of the famous works of art and architecture that we discuss in the Humanities classes at SPC.  I have also attended a great many plays, ballets, and operas performed in their country of origin and have listened to performances of music in some of the great concert halls of the world.  It is my hope that my own familiarity with important works both in our country and abroad will enable me to instill in my students a sense of excitement about the Humanities.  As for French, it was my major course of study, and I have spent many years studying it, living and traveling in French-speaking countries, and teaching it.
